Longyearbyen Taxi is one of the oldest transport operators on Svalbard. For more than 50 years, we have safely transported local residents, visitors, and working guests throughout Longyearbyen – in one of the world’s most unique and demanding environments.
Our long history, combined with local knowledge and modern solutions, makes us a natural choice for transportation on Svalbard.

Our History
1971
Established in Longyearbyen
Longyearbyen Taxi was established in the autumn of 1971 by Charles Olsen, who operated the company for many years.
1979 – 2003
Growth and development
Jan Arne Johansen took over operations and further developed the company into Longyearbyen Buss og Taxi AS.
2003 - 2022
Early focus on sustainability
Martin Johansen took over the company and introduced Longyearbyen’s first hybrid taxi – a Toyota Prius.
2022-2026
New ownership, same values
Martin Johansen retired, and the company was sold to Frank-Johnny Olsen, maintaining strong local roots and values.
